About me
Dan DeJager is the 2019 SHAPE America National High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year and recently served on the SHAPE America National Physical Education Standards Task Force. He has 25 years of teaching experience, including middle school, high school and independent study. He has extensive experience in physical education as a department chair, presenter, author, new teacher mentor, curriculum writer, university lecturer and teacher leader. Dan has also served on numerous school site councils, school site leadership teams and governance panels in his school district.
Dan is a former cross country and track coach and won the 2017 Sierra Delta League Model Coach of the Year Award. He is a National Board Certified Teacher and earned a MS in Kinesiology: Sports Performance. He is the Secondary Physical Education Teacher on Special Assignment leading instructional support for physical educators in San Juan Unified School District and currently teaches K-8 Physical Education in Gold River, CA and Kinesiology classes at CSU Sacramento. When he isn’t doing something physical education or physical activity related, he can be found spending time with his wife and two sons, enjoying a good board game or playing fantasy football.
